All genuine learning is active, not passive. It involves the use of the mind, not just the memory. It is a process of discovery, in which the student is the main agent, not the teacher.
- Mortimer J. Adler, The Paideia Proposal
We are all products of an educational system based on the model of a teacher lecturing on a topic and providing us with a set of prescribed assignments - a model that provides very little input or choice on our part.
This website is an example of the opposite model. It is one of process, choice, passion, reflection and application to other areas in our lives. We state "our" because, as the teacher, you are part of this learning process too! The playing field is more level in Inquiry-based Learning.
ArtPad's teacher resources include plans for inquiry, which were developed for the inquiry-based learning model. The lesson plans are sorted based on artistic media type, so you can easily adapt them for use in your classroom.
The Glenbow Museum is a wonderful resource; hopefully this website will be a window to all its wonder!
