How we Lived with Other People

Our oral traditions tell us that we did not receive all of the land the government agreed to give us. Many of our tribal governments are involved in legal cases to get compensation for the land we did not receive.

We are developing our own schools so our children will be taught our traditions and our history. We are operating our own health care facilities so our people will be treated well.

We also have trouble getting our education and health care paid for by the government. We believe these are our rights and that we gave up our way of life for them.

For thousands of years we lived side by side with people of other cultures. When Europeans came to our country our lives began to change. Come and learn about our history. Could it have been different?
