The first Board was elected on April 11, 1885 and consisted of Stephen N. Jarrett, James A. Lougheed and Charles W. Peterson. -- The series consists of microfilm copies (made by Glenbow in 1962) of the minutes of the Boards. The originals are held by the Calgary Board of Education.

National Council of Education, Local Committee. -- 1920-1937. -- 56 cm of textual records. -- The National Council of Education (NCE) was an organization established "to act as an educational clearing house and cooperative agency between the nine provinces". It also acted "as a medium for the intellectual exchange between Great Britain and the Empire and to emphasize the value of the British tradition in Government, Public Service, Education, Literature, Arts, Sports, etc." The Calgary Local Committee, headed by Dr. George Kerby, included prominent Calgarians and members of a wide variety of organizations. -- The series consists of minutes, correspondence with the General Secretary, Major Ney, and files related to a "lectureship" series sponsored by the NCE.
