Series 6 Executive subject files. -- 1974-1986, predominant 1979-1985. -- 104 cm of textual records. -- The series consists of administrative and subject files relating to Board and Executive activities, committees, conferences, projects, programs, organizations related to CIFCAC/CIFCAA, and other social service organizations operating in Calgary during that period. Roman Catholic priest, Father Pat O'Byrne, was Executive Director of CIFCAC until 1977. Lutheran pastor, Reverend Robert Schoenheider, served in that capacity from 1977 to 1980. In 1980, Calgary Inter-Faith Community Action Association (CIFCAC) changed its name to Calgary Inter-Faith Community Action Association (CIFCAA), changed its administrative oversight to an Executive Directorate made up of three Board members, and hired Audrey Williamson as Administrative Secretary and office manager. It was likely she who devised the elaborate numbering system used to create and organize the files in this series. Older material dating back as far as 1974 appears to have been incorporated into this system when it was introduced. This organizational system has been maintained and the original file numbers and file titles retained. Broad organizational divisions are as follows: 01 Administration; 02 Committees, Conferences, Projects and Programs; 03 Related Organizations; 04 Other Organizations. The third sub-series, Related Organizations, consists of papers relating to projects and organizations with which CIFCAC/CIFCAA had some kind of direct involvement. The final sub-series, Other Organizations, consists mainly of unsolicited announcements, newsletters and promotional material from outside organizations operating in the city of Calgary and of interest to CIFCAC/CIFCAA. It has been retained as created because it reflects the wide and diverse nature of ecumenical, development and social service organizations in Calgary at the time and the perceived pivotal role that CIFCAC/CIFCAA was seen to play within that framework.

The purpose of Project SAWDAP was to assist local church congregations with their understanding of world development issues and their involvement in world development projects by providing information, locating resources, and assisting with the planning and provision of development education programs and workshops and co-ordination of ecumenical meetings and events. SAWDAP was renamed the Southern Alberta World Development Education Program (SAWDEP) in 1987 and the Micah Institute of Southern Alberta in 1992. Some earlier files in this series were created by early SAWDEP Animateurs Father Jack . Bastigal (1978-1980), Keith Philander (1980-1982) and Harvey Bosma (1982-1984), but the bulk of the files were created by Caroline Brown, who was hired as the SAWDAP Animateur in 1984 and also served as the Director of SAWDEP and the Micah Institute. Some files preserved within the series reflect Caroline Brown's personal interest in and involvement with the Anglican Church. General files in the series are organized chronologically; subject files alphabetically by original file title. For additional files relating to SAWDAP/SAWDEP, see M-9403-90,91,244.

Series 9 Multi-Faith Development Education Project. -- 1989-1998, predominent 1990-1994. -- 50 cm of textual records. -- 7 video recordings. -- The series consists of administrative and subject files relating to a multifaith project initiated by CIFCAA in 1990 to co-ordinate the internatiional development and development education interests and activities of non-Christian religious communities. It was conceived as a parallel project to the development education work with Christian denominations undertaken by the Southern Alberta World Development Education Program (SAWDEP). Once it was underway, the Multi-Faith Project expanded to include the Christian faith, too. In addition to developing programs, seminars and resource materials, the project co-ordinator, Eilis Hiebert, organized two groups that met regularly to discuss development issues, both local and international: a core group consisting of official development/development education representatives from Calgary faith communities including Baha'i, Buddhist, Confucian, Hindu, Native Indian Spirituality, Jewish, Islamic, Sikh, Taoist, Zoroastrian and Christian; and a women's group consisting of women from all faith groups concerned with development issues. Adminstrative files are arranged chronologically; subject files alphabetically by original file title.
