Series 1 Ed Nagle - Personal papers. -- 1874-1940. -- 25 cm of textual records. -- The series consists of diaries, letters, financial records, etc. relating mainly to Ed Nagle's life as a fur trader and as a partner in the Hislop and Nagle Company from 1893 to 1912. At its height, the Hislop and Nagle Company operated 14 permanent fur trade posts and ran a freighting operation with 3 steamboats in competition with the Hudson's Bay Company from its headquarters in Fort Resolution in the Northwest Territories. Transcripts of Ed Nagle's diaries were made by his grand-daughter, Fran Kimpton.

Miscellaneous reports and articles. -- 1921-1982. -- Consists of exploration and operation reports relating to Yellowknife River, Great Bear Lake and Great Slave Lake areas by C.B. Dawson, R. Dawson, Henry L. Smyth, and F.J. Alcock and D.F. Kidd (Geological Survey of Canada), and reports from the early 1920s by Constable Marcel Chappuis, Fond du Lac Detachment, Prince Albert Division, Saskatchewan Provincial Police. Includes a report by Chappuis about a 3000 mile patrol he undertook north of Lake Athabasca from December 18, 1920 to June 5, 1921. He travelled primarily by dogsled and patrolled areas of both northern Alberta and Sasaktchewan, including Isle a la Crosse, Turnor Lake, Churchill Lake, McFarlane River, Clear Water River, Fond du Lac, Rocky Lake, Selwyn Lake, Wollaston Lake, Reindeer Lake, Hatchet Lake, Rocky Lake, Fort Chipewyan, Cree River and Gwilliam River. He reported on trail conditions, First Nations, trappers, traders, game and fur-bearing animals.
