Calgary Young Women’s Christian Association. — 1931-1995. — 37.5 cm of textual records. — Doreen Orman was active in the Calgary YWCA from an early date, and was involved in many different committees and activities.  She was an inaugural member of the Kappa Gamma Club.  Later, she was involved at the administrative level as President, Board member and chair of many committees.  She served as President from 1969 to 1972, during which time the National YWCA undertook a review of the Calgary YWCA’s executive.  She chaired the Y-Teens Committee, Program Committee, Redevelopment Committee, Women of Distinction Committee, and was active in building campaigns, local arrangements for conventions, and the development of programs for special groups. One of her major contributions was as Chair of the Cooperation for Development Committee, which dealt with YWCA’s programs to aid development in the third world (see Series 2). — The series consists of Doreen’s papers related to the various Calgary YWCA activities in which she was involved.  The files have been artificially arranged in date order, by the earliest date in each file.

Cooperation for Development Committee, YWCA. — 1969- 1992. — 37.5 cm of textual records. — Doreen Orman was extremely active in promoting development in the third world.  She served as chair of the YWCA’s Cooperation for Development Committee (CDC) from 1977 to 1979, and then continued to serve on the committee’s executive.  The committee was part of the YWCA of Canada, but was decentralized to Calgary.  CDC aimed to integrate international development understanding and activities into all aspects of the YWCA’s work.  Doreen also attended many workshops and conferences related to this work. — The series consists of minutes, correspondence, circulars,  reports, and newspaper clippings related to the work of the committee, as well as programs and notes of various development conferences which Doreen attended.  The files have been artificially arranged in date order, by the earliest date in each file.
