Included in this series are a radio play by Clarence Mack, interviews with Dr. Stanley Greenhill, Medical Director of the Blood Transfusion Service and Dr. Jeremy Culver-James, Medical Director of the Red Cross Blood Supply. RAD-53-1 Death's Preview : Canadian Red Cross Blood Donor Service. -- [ca. 1950]. -- 1 transcription disc (15 min.). -- Consists of a dramatic radio play written by Clarence Mack, about blood transfusions saving the lives of fire and accident victims. It features Bill Krem as Death, Lois Hume as Shock, Bill Downing as Hal Haemorrhage, Mark Weber as the man on the street, Alan Pringle as the newsboy, Gordon Gibbs as the narrator, Brian O'Brien as RH, and Gerry Smith as the Red Cross attendant. The play was written for and broadcast by CFAC radio in Calgary. -- Reproduced from outer to inner grooves.
RAD-53-2 Blood Transfusion Service campaign : Remember, Blood Donors are Life-Savers too. -- [ca. 1940-1945]. -- 1 transcription disc. -- Consists of 18 radio promotions. Side one consists of three 5 minute programs regarding: an accident in Winnipeg: a young woman blood donor in eastern Canada saving the life of an older man; and an emergency air drop of blood to the isolated community of Spirit River, Alberta. Side two consists of five 15 second promotions, and ten 30 second promotions encouraging the donation of blood for civilian needs, as well as for Canadian soldiers fighting overseas. -- Reproduced from outer to inner grooves.
RAD-53-3 Red Cross Program. July 9, [1947]. -- 1 transcription disc (15 min.). -- Consists of an interview by Miss E.T. Hugo, Donor Panel Director of the Blood Transfusion Service, Alberta Division, with Dr. Stanley Greenhill, Medical Director of the Blood Transfusion Service. The program outlines new peace-time initiatives, including the mobile blood donor clinics and free blood banks. his is one episode of a regular program broadcast on CFRN every Wednesday afternoon, as a public service feature. -- Reproduces from inner to outer grooves.
RAD-53-4 Teddy de Waal. -- [ca. 1946]. -- 1 transcription disc (7.5 min.). -- Consists of the story of Teddy de Waal, a Calgary child suffering from severe anaemia who was given a blood transfusion to save his life. Teddy is interviewed, as well as his mother, Audrey de Waal. It is also mentioned that the life of Teddy's father, John de Waal, was saved by blood plasma, when he was injured in his work with a fire fighters corps during the Second World War. -- NOTE: This transcription disc is oversized, and the needle rest on the transcription disc player must be removed in order to play it. -- Reproduced from outer to inner grooves.
