Series 3

Agreements. - 1947. - 1 cm of textual records. - This series consists of an agreement with the City of Calgary for the lease of Victoria Park. - Other agreements may be found in other series.

Series 4

Financial records. - 1899-1944. - 20 cm of textual records. - Includes cash books, ledger book, financial statements, auditor's report. - Financial records of The Stampede (rodeo events) and other activities are filed in Series 7 and other series. Annual financial statements are in Series 2. Some financial statistics may be found in File M-2160-73 of Series 5 and in Series 12.

Series 5

General Manager's general correspondence. - 1897-[ca. 1967]. - 50 cm of textual records and graphic material. - Correspondence concerns general matters, financial matters, legal matters (including Guy Weadick lawsuit), statistics, history, rental of the Horse Show Building, etc. The General Managers included C. W. Peterson (1903-1906), E. L. Richardson (1906-1940), J. Charles Yule (1940-1951), and Maurice Hartnett (1951-1965). - Other correspondence of the General Manager may be found in Series 1, 6, 10, 11, and 12. Some of E. L. Richardson's personal correspondence is in Series 14.

Series 6

Buildings and improvements. - 1902-1974. - 33 cm of textual records and architectural drawings. - This series includes correspondence, financial records, tenders, agreements, architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and renderings relating to planning and development of Victoria Park (the exhibition grounds), money bylaws and other means of raising capital for improvements, and construction activity.

Series 7

The Stampede (rodeo events). - 1919-1950. - 3.3 m of textual records. - The Stampede, a contest of traditional cowboy athletic skills and a celebration of Western culture, was successfully held in 1912, and again in 1919. In 1923 it was held in conjunction with the annual Calgary Industrial Exhibition, and was so popular that it became an annual event, with the Exhibition being eventually renamed the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede. Initially the Stampede Parade and window display contest were also organized by the Stampede Committee. Eventually the Stampede events came to be known simply as the "rodeo events". The Stampede Managers (title later changed to Arena Director) included Guy Weadick (1912, 1919, 1923-1932), Jack Dillon (1932-1947), and Dick Cosgrave (1947-1970). - This series includes score sheets and results of Stampede events, as well as financial records, employment records, records of livestock used in events, and correspondence of the Stampede Manager or Arena Director. It is arranged in chronological order. Records for some years are missing. Records of the chuckwagon races after 1971 are in Series 8. The printed programs and prize lists and rules for The Stampede (rodeo events) are filed in Series 15. The Daily Programs for 1950-1975 (Series 15, files M-2160-292-28 to M-2160-29a-43) include lists of all Stampede contestants. Posters for the Stampede are in Series 16.

Series 9

Livestock shows and sales, livestock breeders' organizations. - 1900-1991. - 69 cm of textual records. - The General Manager of the Exhibition acted as manager of several livestock breeders' organizations. Their directors met jointly as the Territorial Livestock Associations (renamed Alberta Livestock Associations after 1905). The associations participated in livestock shows and sales at the Exhibition, as well as other annual events such as the Alberta Winter Fair, Alberta Provincial Fat Stock Show and Sale, and Calgary Spring Live Stock Shows and Sales. This series includes the records of the Territorial Pure Bred Cattle Breeders' Association (later named Territorial Cattle Breeders' Association, then Alberta Cattle Breeders' Association), Territorial Horse Breeders' Association (later named Alberta Horse Breeders' Association), Territorial Sheep Breeders' Association (later named Alberta Sheep Breeders' Association), Territorial Swine Breeders' Association (later named Alberta Swine Breeders' Association), Hunters' Improvement Association, and Canadian French Coach Horse Breeders' Association. - In this series, records of the livestock shows and sales are listed in approximate chronological order, followed by records of the livestock breeders' organizations. Posters for livestock shows and sales are in Series 16.

Series 10

Horse racing and auto racing. - 1905-1955. - 65 cm of textual records. - Horse racing was an aspect of the Exhbibition Company's operations as early as 1890. It included running races and harness races. For a short period automobile races were also featured, as well as a "cowboy race meet". - This series includes daily programs or racing cards, annual programs, results, and financial records, as well as correspondence and other materials concerning racing activities in western Canada. - Samples of more recent racing programs are held in the Glenbow Library.

Series 11

Sports organizations - 1922-1938. - 17 cm of textual records. - The Exhibition Company sponsored the Victoria Athletic Club, a club for boys, in the 1920s. It was associated with the Calgary Tigers, a professional hockey team managed by Lloyd Turner. It functioned as the records repository for the Western Canada Hockey League, a professional league that operated during the 1932-1933 hockey season. - This series includes financial records, correspondence, hockey league rules, programs, game schedules, game statistics. - Correspondence with the Calgary Tigers organization is in Series 5, File M-2160-188.

Series 12

Western Canada Association of Exhibitions. Band Committee. - 1926-1928. - 41 cm of textual records. - In 1926 the Coldstream Guards Band undertook a concert tour of Canada. It was followed in 1928 by a tour of the Royal Air Force Band. A committee of the Western Canada Association of Exhibitions managed the tours, and the Exhibition Company became the repository for its records. - This series consists of correspondence, reports, contracts, itineraries, financial records, and programs.

Series 13

Historical, publicity, and miscellaneous information. - 1921-2004. - 46 cm of textual records. - This series includes scrapbooks, historical articles, statistics, and other materials collected for historical or publicity purposes. - See also Files M-2160-5, 5a, 41, 41a, and 73 in Series 5. This series also includes the Information Guide and Media Guide issued each year for the benefit of the news media.

E. L. Richardson personal papers. - 1908-1915. - 20 cm of textual records. - This series consists of some of the personal business and household records of E. L. Richardson, long-time General Manager of the Exhibition Company.

Posters. - 1908-2006. - 203 posters. - This series includes posters for the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede and its predecessors known by various names; livestock shows; and other events sponsored by the Exhibition Company, and includes a few collected miscellaneous posters.

Series 17

Photographs. - 1895-1963. - 667 photographs. - This series consists of photographs officially donated to the Glenbow Archives by the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Ltd. - The Archives has many other photographs documenting Stampede activities. Most notable are the Milward Belmont Davis Marcell collection and the W. J. Oliver fonds.
