A Unique Colaboration

Glenbow Museum Photo

In November 2001 a new gallery called Nitsitapiisinni : Our Way of Life opened at Glenbow Museum in Calgary, Alberta. This gallery is the result of a full collaboration between the Kainai, Siksika, Amsskaapipikani, Apatohsipikani, and the Glenbow.

We determined the content, selected the art, artifacts, and images and approved the text and design. Glenbow staff has been innovative in converting our ideas and concerns into a museum exhibit. We have found this to be a new experience - one that illustrates how well we can all work together.

This photograph essay on Niitoy-yiss (the tipi) is based on parts of the gallery which tell about our traditional homes.
