Special Events Volunteers
We are recruiting for a number of engaged and committed volunteers to assist Glenbow Museum staff with special events and membership activities. Special events include Exhibit Opening events, Launch Parties, Weekend at the Museum, and Glenbow’s signature fundraising event, SCHMANCY.
Special event volunteers are occasionally needed during daytime events between 9:00am and 4:00pm. However, most events take place in the evenings (between 4:00 and 10:00pm) or on weekends.
Volunteer roles may include:
- Assisting with event set up
- Greeting visitors/members
- Being a customer service-oriented ambassador for Glenbow
- Dressing in theme costumes
- Assisting with event registration
- Assisting with maintaining events and clean up
- Duties as required during event
Shift time is flexible. We are seeking a commitment to events between October 2012 and June 2013. Glenbow volunteers enjoy opportunities to learn about the museum’s programs, exhibitions and other activities as well as to interact and connect with a diverse group of members, volunteers, staff and Glenbow supporters.
Volunteers at Glenbow often remark on the wonderful friendships, experience and knowledge they gain from their involvement at the museum. Glenbow volunteers also receive a complimentary family membership and discount at the museum shop after 100 hours of service.
Individuals are welcome to apply regardless of experience. Assets include:
- Maturity for the work involved
- An interest in Glenbow’s exhibitions, programs and other activities
- Commitment, enthusiasm and initiative
- Great communication and interpersonal skills when working with the public and staff
- ProServe Training
We encourage you to pass this information on to your contacts. It’s always more fun to get involved along with friends or co-workers!
Interested candidates should review the Understanding the Commitment section of Glenbow’s website and then complete and submit our Application Form. Please indicate that you are applying for "Special Events Volunteer." Successful completion of a security clearance will be required.
Discovery Room Volunteers
We are recruiting enthusiastic weekend volunteers to help in our popular and busy second floor Discovery Room.
Working with our Discovery Room Educators, volunteers provide a friendly and welcoming greeting to visitors, help visitors with activities and projects, demonstrate activity techniques, assist with tracking visitors and audio and visual equipment monitoring, tidy activity stations, and prepare material.
We are seeking volunteers who are friendly and outgoing yet professional, who enjoy working with the public and children, who are reliable and committed, and who enjoy teamwork in a busy setting. A love of museums is a must, and an interest in art and crafts is desired, but you DO NOT have to be an artist to enjoy this fun volunteer role!Â
Shift times are Saturdays or Sundays, 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. A minimum commitment of at least two shifts per month is required. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age.
Interested candidates should review Understanding the Commitment, and then complete and submit our Application Form. Please indicate clearly that you are applying for "Discovery Room Volunteer."
