Volunteering At Glenbow

As an organization, we believe that volunteers are vital to the work we do. They act as strong advocates in the community. Thanks to hundreds of dedicated individuals, Glenbow Museum has a strong and vital volunteer program for 50 years. Through their enthusiasm, efforts, and involvement we are able to enhance our programs, better manage our collections, and provide our visitors with a great experience.

Glenbow Volunteers represent the museum in all capacities, whether they are frontline, serving visitors in various programs or the Glenbow Shop, or behind the scenes, ensuring that our collections are well kept and up to date. Our volunteers are all ages, come from all backgrounds, and are passionate about sharing their time, talents, and energy with us. Some volunteers have been with us over 20 years and continue to volunteer regularly.

Current Opportunities

Applications for Discovery Room Art Assistants for Youth 14 to 17 years of age and Post-Secondary Students 17+ years of age will be accepted between June 1 and October 1, 2017.

The Glenbow Discovery Room is seeking youth and post-secondary students with an interest in learning more about museums, art, facilitation and material preparation. This summer, every day opportunities will be available for volunteers to work alongside Museum Educators in both the Discovery Room as well as on Stephen Avenue Mall (July specific). Additional opportunities include artifact handling training and possibly special events.

Experience is not necessarily required given that this may be a first time volunteer opportunity for youth.

Discovery Room Art Assistants are scheduled between 12 noon to 3 pm or 1 pm to 4 pm most days of the week throughout July and August. During the summer a minimum of 2 shifts per month is recommended with 1 shift a month recommended during the school year. Scheduling is very flexible with respect to exams schedules as well as family/ personal holidays or activities. Many volunteers enjoy their summer experience and in turn continue with Glenbow into the fall and winter months when weekend shifts, occasional Friday evenings, and one day special events take place. Volunteers utilize Sign-Up Genius to self-direct their volunteering schedule.
