From Our Collection: Wall of Water
June 6 – September 27, 2015
Peter von Tiesenhausen’s Wall of Water is a pivotal work in the artist’s oeuvre. Before this piece, von Tiesenhausen only used natural materials in his practice, but for Wall of Water, the artist turned to man-made and non-natural material, addressing environmental issues in the process.
Shimmering and rippling in places, corroded in others, the sixty steel panels that constitute the installation reflect on the impact of pollution on our water supply, with the monumental size of the piece communicating the severity of the issue.
An internationally-acclaimed artist, Alberta-based von Tiesenhausen is recognized for his passionate engagement with nature expressed through monumental gallery-specific installation, painting, drawing, sculpture, video and performance. Much of his art deals with transformation, transience and natural cycles.
