Explore a Sense of Place

Join us in our new exhibition of modern and contemporary art from Glenbow's collection. The places in these artworks are sometimes real and sometimes imagined! From landscapes to ecosystems to human-made architectural spaces, "place" is a state of mind. After the gallery tour we'll go behind the scenes to Glenbow's art storage area to explore how some other artists relate to the environments humans inhabit. Afterwards, you can design your own territory in a Family Flag Workshop.

Explore the Art of Albertine Crow Shoe

Glenbow's artist-in-residence program invites multidisciplinary artists to interact with Glenbow's vast collection of art and cultural material to inspire them to make new art. Albertine Crow Shoe is known primarily for her exquisite jewellery and has created an exhibition that pairs her new artworks with the items from Glenbow's collection that influenced her. Each of the items in this gallery have a story - what is it made of? Who would wear it and why? After the gallery tour, we'll go behind the scenes to see some of the other jewellery in Glenbow's collection, before making our own wearable art in a Jewellery Making Workshop.

Explore the Art of Antoni Tàpies

The artworks in this exhibition are by one of the most significant Spanish artists of the 20th century, Antoni Tàpies. They have never before been publicly exhibited at Glenbow! Even though these prints are abstract, the artist uses the colours, layers and textures to express his ideas about his home, his history and his language. After the gallery tour, we'll go behind the scenes to learn more about the art of printmaking and see some of the other incredible prints in Glenbow's collection. Then you'll get to try it yourself in our Printmaking Workshop.
