Embroidermation (a mash-up of embroidery and animation)

In this workshop, artist Caitlin Thompson will introduce participants to the feedback cycles of embroidery and animation. Both processes rely on sequential bits of information (stitches and pixels) in order for the final piece to hold together. Embroidermation, a term coined by animator Nina Paley, combines both animation and embroidery. Each participant will be given a fabric printed image of an animation frame. The prints will then be embellished with stitches learned in the workshop. At the end of the class, all of these embroideries will be photographed together to create a short, looping animation! All supplies included.
