My First Visit to the Museum Introduce your students to the fascinating world of the Glenbow Museum. Inquisitive young minds will learn from the exhibits through exploration and artifact handling. They will discover the meaning of the words "museum," "gallery," "exhibit" and "artifact" and uncover the stories that can be told by what they see and feel. The program includes a mini-museum in a box to take back to your school to sculpt an artifact and create a work of art. Grades K-2 |

Learning to Draw and Drawing to Learn Sketching in the museum helps us discover the symbols and stories in Glenbow's vast collection of artifacts. Slowing down to draw makes us look more deeply and critically. Explore the Basics: Finding Dreams in Art Whoosh! Students take a colourful, whirlwind journey through a lifetime of dreams using the original artwork created for the award-winning book Dream: A Tale of Wonder, Wisdom, and Wishes by Susan V. Bosak. They explore the special and important wishes they make on stars while learning about colour and mood, line and shape, and how words and pictures work together. They hunt for hidden stars to make wishes and create a Dream Collage to share those wishes. Grades K- 2 |

Share-a-Dream: Building Community in the Classroom You're never too young or old to dream! Walk into the original artworks used in Susan V. Bosak's award-winning book, Dream: A Tale of Wonder, Wisdom and Wishes, and explore questions such as: What are dreams? What are my dreams? How are my dreams different than other people's dreams? How do dreams work together to create a community? Letting their imaginations soar to reach new goals for themselves, students will create an origami Dream Star to communicate their dreams to others. Learning to Draw with Emily Carr Join us as artist and actress Chester Lees brings Emily Carr to life. Take this opportunity to walk back in time and visit with one of Canada's most recognized artists. Emily Carr is best known for her paintings of First Nations' villages and landscapes of the Pacific Northwest coast. While viewing the traveling exhibition Emily Carr: New Perspectives on a Canadian Icon, students will explore the techniques Emily used in her paintings and build upon their own sketching and artistic skills. Learn how to slow down, look deeply, and read the vocabulary of art: line, shape, and colour in the traveling exhibition entitled Emily Carr: New Perspectives on a Canadian Icon. Using all of our senses, students will collaborate in small groups to create a floor collage using materials that support their exploration and understanding of these concepts.
