Trips to Glenbow have been a lifelong pleasure for Britt Simmons.
“I have enjoyed visiting the Glenbow regularly since it was housed in the old sandstone Courthouse building on 7th Avenue. As a child I recall being fascinated and mesmerized by the wonderful objects within.”
Years later, when he took his own children to the Glenbow, he would bribe them with M&M’s, which as adults they still refer to as “museum treats,” says Britt. “Glenbow is a great resource for children and learning. We know that it will continue to stimulate minds for generations to come.”
Britt and Janet recently made a significant gift to the Glenbow Reimagined campaign, which will be recognized in a community gathering space in the new building.
While they are deeply invested in the Calgary community, they are also avid travellers, and try to take in galleries and museums wherever they go.
“We always visit museums and sometimes plan trips according to what special exhibitions may be on,” says Britt. “There are always objects that surprise and stimulate imagination and a desire for further knowledge.”
Looking ahead, they are excited that Glenbow will become a destination museum for visitors from around the world.
