Celebrating Glenbow at The Edison

Blog

Glenbow at The Edison closed following our final exhibition, Takao Tanabe: Printmaker, on November 24, 2024.

Since April 2022, our satellite gallery has been an important part of how we’ve stayed connected to our community while Glenbow undergoes a major renovation and transformation. It was an honour to welcome 67,588 visitors to 10 exceptional exhibitions in this special gallery.

About Glenbow at The Edison

As part of The City of Calgary’s Downtown Strategy to revitalize and transform downtown into a culturally vibrant and thriving destination, The City provided funding support to convert an empty office suite on the Plus 15 level of The Edison building into a Class A museum space, complete with the necessary HVAC systems and climate controls. This office conversion enabled Glenbow to open Glenbow at The Edison, a temporary gallery space for the museum to deliver programming and stay connected with the community while the main museum is closed for renovations.

Glenbow at The Edison was also made possible with generous support from Mobsquad. Thanks to the Calgary Downtown Association and Calgary Foundation, Glenbow was able to offer free admission to all visitors.

What’s next

In 2025 and 2026, Glenbow’s focus will be on developing the 50+ new spaces in our new home, the JR Shaw Centre for Arts & Culture. This includes 34 new exhibition spaces, five back-of-house museum experiences, as well as dedicated spaces for programming, community engagement, and research. Learn more about our future and reopening plans.

We can’t wait to welcome you back in 2026!
