Installing Nick Cave’s Architectural Forest

Of the many wonders encountered in the exhibition Nick Cave: Feat., the most monumental is the Architectural Forest, a large-scale installation with thousands of brightly coloured beads and almost psychedelically patterned strands of bamboo.

As visitors walk around the hanging elements, which collectively suggest an enchanted forest of sorts, their visual perception of its architecture repeatedly shifts, enhancing the sense of wonder and discovery.

Needless to say the piece, which takes up an entire gallery and weighs approximately 1,000 pounds, proved to be a bit of challenge to install. In the video below, Glenbow production technician Rod Bennett walks us through the steps our team took in mounting this fantastical art work.

Don’t forget, Nick Cave: Feat. closes on September 22, 2019. See it before it’s gone!
