From the irresistible “Grumpy Cat” to the colourful harbour scenes, the paintings of Nova Scotia folk artist Maud Lewis have a unique and enduring appeal.

We asked three curators about the enduring appeal of folk artist Maud Lewis, and the resulting conversation is both educational and delightful. Sarah Milroy (Chief Curator at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection), Sarah Fillmore (Chief Curator at the Art Gallery Nova Scotia) and Haema Sivanesan (Chief Curator at Glenbow) try to define what it is about Maud’s work that sparks joy in so many people.
