Exhibition
Overview

Organized by Glenbow

Glenbow actively collects art and cultural history objects to enhance our collection and tell great stories.

Explore some of the items that we’ve recently added to the collection. They represent art and artists from Alberta, Canada and beyond, and tell stories both about how people lived in the past, and how we live now. This exhibition features contemporary Canadian artworks by Carl Beam, Marion Nichol, Barbara Tipton and more.

Take a virtual tour with Daryl Betenia, Glenbow’s manager of collections who will show (and tell) you all about a treasure trove of ultra-fashionable women’s hats from the 1940s to 1970s, that are featured in this gallery. The hats were worn by Maude Sproule and came to Glenbow from her daughter Judy. Maude passed away in 1994 at the age of 85. She was married to John Campbell Sproule, founder of the Calgary petroleum exploration firm, J. Sproule & Associates. We know from Judy that Maude dressed fashionably throughout her life and was obviously particularly fond of HATS!
