Since its founding, Glenbow has collected art and objects that represent the culture and history of our region and beyond. Every item, whether donated or purchased, is acquired with the intention that it should educate, spark curiosity, and inspire.
Each artwork or object holds a story — maybe even a few. Our goal is to collect and share stories that matter to our community. Art and objects can also inspire new stories, gaining life and purpose from those who visit them.
Moratorium on Art Donations
As Glenbow’s team prepares for the museum’s reopening, we have implemented a temporary moratorium on new acquisitions and art donations. This pause will remain in place until Glenbow reopens to the public. Any art donations formally committed to already will proceed as planned.
This decision does not reflect a change in Glenbow’s commitment to collecting, artists, donors, or our community. It is allowing our team to prioritize the safe care of collections we steward, exhibition and reopening readiness, and staff capacity as we prepare to re-open.
